Satan is an important character in John Milton’s poem "Paradise Lost." He was once a powerful angel in Heaven. He became proud and rebelled against God. Because of this, he was thrown out of Heaven. His appearance changed after his fall. His face became fiery and ugly. His new look showed that he had become evil.

Satan is full of pride and ambition. He wants power and refuses to obey God. He is a great speaker. He convinces other fallen angels to follow him. He is clever and tricky. He uses lies to get what he wants. He never accepts defeat. He keeps fighting, even when he knows he cannot win.

Satan has some qualities of a tragic hero. He wants freedom and does not want to follow God’s rules. He does not give up, even when he suffers. This makes some people feel sorry for him. He knows he has made mistakes. Even so, he keeps going down the wrong path.

Anandvardhana was a Kashmiri court poet and literary critic, honored with the title of Rajanak during King Avantivarman's reign.  Anandavardhana authored the Dhvanyāloka , or A Light on Suggestion (dhwani), a work articulating the philosophy of "aesthetic suggestion" (dhwani, vyañjanā).
