Asif Currimbhoy was born in 1928 in Mumbai, India. He was the son of a rich businessman, which gave him a comfortable life. He studied in India before going to the United States for higher education.

He attended the University of Wisconsin, where he learned about Western literature, drama, and theatre. His studies and experiences in different cultures helped shape his ideas about writing plays. He became interested in theatre and storytelling, which later became his career.

After finishing his studies, he returned to India and started writing plays. Unlike many Indian playwrights of his time, he wrote only in English. His plays show his deep thoughts about society, politics, and history.

He had a special way of mixing Indian themes with Western styles of drama. His plays talk about topics like colonial rule, industrial growth, war, and social justice. His works were performed in India and other countries, and people admired them for their realistic storytelling.

Asif Currimbhoy wrote more than thirty plays, each focusing on different issues. His play Goa talks about the problems faced by people during the fight for Goa’s freedom from Portuguese rule. His play The Refugee shows the struggles of homeless people searching for a place to live. Another important play, Sonar Bangla, describes the Bangladesh Liberation War and how it affected common people.

His play The Dumb Dancer is about an Indian classical dancer who struggles with his artistic identity. Inquilab deals with political movements and their impact on society. Thorns on a Canvas explores the life of an artist facing personal and professional struggles.

He also wrote An Experiment with Truth, which is based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. His play The Captives highlights the psychological struggles of prisoners. Om Mane Padme Hum is a play that focuses on spiritual and philosophical themes. The Dissident M.L.A. talks about political corruption and rebellion.

Many of his plays focus on human pain, unfair treatment, and the effects of political troubles. His way of writing was a mix of real-life events and creative ideas. Anandvardhana was a Kashmiri court poet and literary critic, honored with the title of Rajanak during King Avantivarman's reign.  Anandavardhana authored the Dhvanyāloka , or A Light on Suggestion (dhwani), a work articulating the philosophy of "aesthetic suggestion" (dhwani, vyañjanā).
