Verb Phrase


A verb phrase is a group of words that acts as a verb in a sentence. It consists of a main verb and one or more helping (auxiliary) verbs.

Structure of a Verb Phrase

  1. Helping Verb(s) + Main Verb
    • Example: She is reading a book.
  2. Main Verb + Object or Complement
    • Example: He wrote a letter.
