Prose : Definition and Forms
What is Prose? The word 'Prose' has been derived from the Latin word 'Prosa' meaning 'Straight Forward'. The prose is a genre of literature that is written like everyday speech. It has no structure, format and rhyming in the sentences. Thus, it is used in Articles, Newspapers, Letters, Stories, Biographies, Essays etc. The prose is divided into two major forms :- 1. Fiction Fiction is a result of the writer's imagination. It is wholly or partly imagined, the characters are imaginary and the aim is to elicit feelings and reactions of the reader. For example; Novel, Novella, and Short Story etc. 2. Non-Fiction Non-Fiction is not based on the author's imagination, it is based on the facts, events and people that are real. For example; Biography, Autobiography, Memoir, Essay etc. **********************************************
